Mass Evictions legislation

The tenants of Hamilton on the Bay once again displayed true power when they demanded that the City of Miami do something about these mass evictions at their building, and all the others that have seen eviction orders after the Surfside collapse. The city, Comm. Russell in particular, responded in turn by ordering the City Attorney to begin drafting mass evictions legislation. You can watch that video here.

It is no longer a question of "if". It is now a question on "when", and we will have already followed up on Comm. Russell's invitation to schedule a meeting with his office to get work out the details, and provide the greater community with an updated timeline on when they can see this legislation.

In addition, negotiations with slumlord AIMCO/AIR Communities are ongoing, and tenants continue to work together as a united front to make sure that the list of demands is met in full. The City of Miami also accepted tenant requests to inspect the unsafe construction practices at Hamilton in person, and Commissioners Reyes, De La Portilla and Russell all committed to paying a visit. And considering just how dangerous and loud the construction is, we really need all of them to come see it.
